Screen Pilot Joins 'Fill A Backpack' Challenge to Support Colorado Kids in Need

As Chief Cultural Officer at Screen Pilot, I'm so proud to announce our participation in the "Fill A Backpack" corporate challenge.This initiative, a partnership with the nonprofit organization A Precious Child, provides new backpacks and school supplies to children facing difficult life challenges such as abuse and neglect, crisis situations and poverty.We're extending an invitation for our clients and colleagues to get involved.The goal is to send 19,000 disadvantaged and displaced youth back to school feeling confident and prepared for academic success.On average, it costs $50 to help a child start the school year with the tools they need to succeed.There are three ways you can help.

1. Donate online at https://donate.apreciouschild.org/fill-a-backpack
2. Under “Additional Information” select “Screen Pilot” from the “Corporate, Chamber and Church Challenge” drop down list.
3. Bring new backpacks and school supplies to Screen Pilot headquarters.
4. Donations accepted 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday (except on July 4) on the 3rd floor of Screen Pilot headquarters at 1600 Wynkoop St. in Denver. See FAQ below for suggested supplies.
5. Commit to being a corporate sponsor in 2020.

What is A Precious Child?

A Precious Child provides children in need with opportunities and resources to empower them to achieve their full potential. They envision a future where every child grows up to be a secure, self-reliant, contributing member of their community.In 2018, A Precious Child served 48,970 Colorado children in need and more than 5,700 adult caregivers.

What’s the need like in Colorado?

More than 250,000 children live below the Colorado Self-Sufficiency Standard in A Precious Child’s eight-county service area. Children in these families often lack the necessary supplies critical for academic achievement.Ensuring that children have the tools to participate in school can reduce truancy, promote learning and build positive self-esteem.

How can I help?

What school items are needed?

The Fill A Backpack Corporate Challenge is focused on collecting brand new backpacks and school supplies for children in grades kindergarten through high school. We have the greatest need for the following items:

• Backpacks
• Markers
• Scissors (for elementary students)
• Large erasers
• Spiral notebooks
• Packages of loose-leaf notebook paper
• Composition notebooks
• Pocket folders
• Index cards
• Rulers
• Graph paper
• Blue, black or red pens
• Colored pencils
• Crayons (24 Count)
• #2 Pencils
• Highlighters
• Glue bottles & sticks
• Pencil bags & boxes

What happens with the supplies that are collected?

Backpacks filled with grade-appropriate school supplies are distributed to children through the A Precious Child Resource Center as well as agency partners, which include schools, human services organizations, at-risk youth centers, homeless shelters and foster care organizations.
