“A historic hotel in Baltimore has opened its doors as a community resource and anchor during the COVID-19 outbreak,” writes Cailey Rizzo from Travel+Leisure.Instead of closing its doors and going dark, Hotel Revival has offered free stays to police officers, firefighters, and military personnel, as well as discounted rooms for doctors and nurses. Rizzo further quotes the hotel’s General Manager, Donte Johnson, who says, “The community has supported our business in times of triumph, and we want to be there for them in times of turmoil.”Travel+Leisure isn’t the only media hit for Hotel Revival. Sources like USA Today, The Hill, and Yahoo Finance have all commended the hotel for playing its part during times of need. And the recognition doesn’t stop there—the hotel has received an overwhelming amount of positive feedback from its social media community.Comments like, “Please know we see what you are doing, and will remember it,” and, “I just wanted to say how awesome it is to see people/organizations like yourselves stepping up in this time of need...I just wanted to say THANK YOU!!” are just two examples of many ways users are showing their support via social media.

Speaking of social media, Hotel Revival has also taken to effectively showcasing its COVID-19 relief efforts on the brand’s own platforms. With the help of local food vendors including Coastal Sunbelt Produce and Hungry Harvest, Hotel Revival assembled and distributed curbside 1,300 bagged lunches as well as numerous care packages made for those who have been laid off in the service and restaurant industries. Hotel Revival documented these efforts via their Instagram.

And as if things weren’t sweet enough, Topside, the hotel’s on-site restaurant, has teamed up with The Charmery, a local ice cream shop, to offer ice cream for curbside pickup or delivery via Uber Eats.

What We've Learned from Hotel Revival

If your hotel is able, get creative with ways to give back, whether that be hosting the “heroes” of this pandemic at a special rate or collaborating with local businesses. Rizzo finishes her piece in Travel+Leisure with a final quote from the General Manager at Hotel Revival, “It's our goal to emerge with strength on the other side of this crisis – and to support our community along the way.”This sentiment is a great theme of humility and community that we at Screen Pilot recommend you adopt when possible. Not only can your local community benefit from proactive efforts like Hotel Revival’s, but it can also be a great opportunity to increase positive brand awareness for your hotel.
