Wondering how to inject wellness into your company culture? Learn how Screen Pilot did so successfully with the Virgin Pulse Global Challenge.

Here at Screen Pilot, we’re always looking for ways in which we can increase wellness across our organization. We provide what most companies offer these days, including healthy snacks, standing desks, flexible hours, remote working and paid time off for volunteering. This year, to embrace the competitive spirit within our company, we signed up to participate in the Virgin Pulse Global Challenge, a worldwide initiative aimed at increasing employee health and wellness across the globe. Through an app, the challenge measured activity as well as nutrition, work/life balance, and sleep over a 100 day period, to act as a fully fledged employee wellness program.[caption id="attachment_5431" align="alignnone" width="448"]

Across the 100 days, we faced additional mini challenges which increased the rivalry between teams. The captains inspired and encouraged us and that competitive drive kept us all focused on what was our ‘end of day number’.Mindsets changed to ‘feet first’. Instead of sitting in the conference room, we conducted walking meetings. The standing desks became commonplace for many. We would saunter over to a co-worker's desk instead of using IM and teams took post lunch power walks. Outside of the office, we worked out together and we encouraged our families to join us and track their steps too. Weekends were spent hiking and cycling. The dog parents amongst us ensured the fur kiddos got extra walks, which of course they loved! Summer was a pretty active season for Screen Pilot employees! We lost a couple of pedometers along the way, one in a washing machine and one in a lake, but for 100 days we tracked our steps. The challenge also encouraged us to look deeper into our own nutrition, sleep, lifestyle and the mind/body connection. Under each module the app provided ways to improve those areas of our lives and if nothing else, it allowed our employees to see the bigger picture of their current lifestyle. Each day, as our steps improved, we were rewarded with a new team location and an improved lifestyle score.

So where did the challenge take us?

Starting in San Francisco (virtually) we traveled across The United States, The Caribbean, South America, Africa, The United Kingdom, The Netherlands, Europe, The Middle East and finally ending our 100 day journey in Sri Lanka.[caption id="attachment_5432" align="alignnone" width="450"]
