Just over a month ago I began my tenure at Screen Pilot here in downtown Denver. I am thrilled to have landed the role as a Search Marketing Specialist, for an exciting agency with an especially awesome team. Coming from Nottingham in the UK, I am also delighted to be working with our British CEO & British CCO. Another Brit in the office - how splendid!
Screen Pilot stood out for me because I wanted to work in digital marketing industry with a hospitality twist. Traveling has long been a love of mine (33 countries visited to date and don’t plan on stopping anytime soon!) so to now be on the other side of the equation, communicating clients’ storylines to travel seekers across the globe, is 100% my cup of tea. Before I go on though, I should probably answer the burning question on all of your minds... “Why would a digital marketing professional publicly admit to being a newbie? Right here on the internet? In front of 3 billion global users…”Well. First of all. My newbie status is relative. Relative to the wealth of experience and expertise within the Screen Pilot ranks. The guys and gals here really know their stuff. That being said, I feel comfortable and most importantly excited about being a newbie here. Gabe, Screen Pilot’s other new SEM Specialist, and I were brought on for our trainability and eagerness to excel in the search marketing sphere, meaning we are basically digital marketing sponges absorbing all that we can. This has all been tied into our training so far, which has been a combination of independent study and collaborative group sessions. Everything we are assigned aims to develop our conceptual SEM knowledge in application to Screen Pilot’s clients and the hospitality industry overall.Examples of our training included running PPC audits of Screen Pilot’s client accounts. This includes individual research followed by meetups with the rest of the SEM team. Here we discuss our findings and implement necessary changes to the accounts. It is a great learning environment from which I feel everyone has benefited. However, it isn’t JUST the newbies wearing our learning caps. That’s because Screen Pilot’s mantra is to continually “challenge the status-quo”, meaning reading articles online and staying ahead of the field is a real must. Hospitality Net, Hotelmarketing.com, and Skift are some websites I’ve enjoyed receiving daily newsletters from. Each provides links to interesting and informative articles which help build knowledge as the days pass by. Take care of the pennies and the dollars look after themselves, right?Overall it has been a real privilege learning a ton of new stuff and sharing plenty of laughs while doing it. Screen Pilot is very much a culture-first company, as described by one of our Account Executives Valerie Erwin in a recent Built In Colorado Thanksgiving post.Despite my infancy in the professional world, the project taking place at Screen Pilot feels unique. We are a group of people who genuinely care about the work we do, the company we work for, and, most importantly, we care about each other. It’s a great time and, what’s more, the soon-to-be-expanded office is beautiful, perfectly located across the road from Union Station here in downtown Denver. It is also a dog-friendly workplace! Today, I brought in Luna (the cute little critter below) in with me. Luna is my roommate’s lovely 11-month old Australian Kelpie, she’s had an absolute blast meeting the team who have drowned her in treats all day long.
Not long ago, a group of us (pictured below) volunteered at the Denver Startup Games on a Saturday afternoon. Additionally, we’re all gearing up to volunteer once again for Habitat for Humanity here in our community. As you can see, community service is an important part of our brand here at Screen Pilot. I also recently played my first ever softball game for the Screen Pilot team, and will GLADLY participate in happy hour hangouts come Friday afternoon.
Exciting things are happening here at Screen Pilot! Stay tuned.-George
