Trending Conversations on Travel During COVID-19

People around the world have been asked not to travel during COVID-19. And though many are playing their part to slow the spread of this disease, it doesn’t mean their wanderlust has gone away. Aspiring travelers are speaking up via social media to express their desire to travel as well as their support of their communities.Here’s a list of the social sentiments Screen Pilot is monitoring surrounding travel during and post-COVID-19.Speak with your digital partner to develop a strategy for how your hotel or resort can join in these trending conversations.Social users respect hotels doing their part of corporate responsibility by closing during these challenging times. As long as the hotel has some type of flexible cancelation/refund policy, guests who have to cancel seem to be alright doing so.

Organically, social media professionals are realizing the need to pivot messaging to more sensitive/wanderlust-inducing messaging in response to the COVID-19 crisis.

With users now spending more time than ever on social media, now’s a great time to run story surveys and shareable story content. This is a great way to 1) collect user data, 2) communicate your branding in an authentic way, and 3) give people something to do.

Users are unsure of when they’ll be traveling next, but they do still plan on traveling and are taking this quarantine time to research new destinations and be inspired by travel imagery. While they may not be traveling in April or May, they’ll be looking for getaways/staycations when COVID-19 has passed.
